Valve’s Steam Subscriber Agreement says that using its content and services requires a Steam account and may require the client and internet. Its client page offers Windows, macOS and Linux installers. “Free to play” is a price model, not a claim that a Steam game runs without installation.
Two verified Steam idle listings
Idle Research is listed as free to play, developed by Considera Games LLC and published by Considera Core LLC. Its loop centres on research and production. The creator’s itch.io entry also offers standalone downloads. Our research-mechanics guide explains those source-backed systems; it does not host a browser build.
Idle Wizard has a Steam listing and Windows, macOS and Linux requirements. TwoWizards’ game centres on mana sources, upgrades, spells and pets. Its official collaborative wiki links both Steam and a Kongregate browser entry. The browser entry stalled at a blurred game area with “Failed to load ads” in our check, so a readable listing is not evidence that play started. We did not install or test either Steam game.
Legacy minimum OS text can be older than the supported Steam client: the checked listings also note that the Windows client supports Windows 10 and later. Check the current client and game requirements together.
What if you want browser play now?
Idle Breakout’s creator entry was directly playable in our browser session. A Basic Ball bounced and broke bricks after purchase. Within our own selection, Idle Crafting Empire Tycoon produced timber while we stopped input, but its tutorial still required manual sales. Idle Game Dev Simulator asks you to choose and start a project before development runs.
Browse the three-game tycoon collection for those different actions. The timber and studio observations do not prove offline earnings, Steam-cloud support or shared saves. This is a choice between real entry paths, rather than an exhaustive Steam catalogue or a ranking.

Browser examples use the linked actual-play records. Store price labels, platforms and names are source facts; installed Steam performance, account sync and offline calculations remain untested.
